New Lane / Lorong Baru (新巷)

Lorong Baru (新巷, New Lane) is the evening hawker street locals still name when Gurney feels like a coach stop. Carts roll in off Jalan Macalister. Penang Global Tourism’s street-food directory lists New Lane satay, popiah at Sin Yin Nam, and other stalls around 16:00–23:00, Wednesday closed. The lane is closed to cars once the stalls set up. Take a table at a coffee shop, order a drink, then walk the carts. Char koay teow, lor bak, oyster omelette, satay. Skip Wednesday. This is a street, not a mall.
